Bad Boy Wants Man to Love

At last! The final Hill brother looks for romance!

Atticus Hill is the second oldest of the six Hill brothers. He’s also the only brother who hasn’t found his Mr. Right yet and his father’s twelve month deadline is fast running out. The only man who appeals to him is Roger King, the drummer at the gay bar Midnight on Tenth.

Roger has his own problems. He’s actually the owner of the bar, not just the drummer, but no one knows that. His parents died in a car crash when Pete, his brother, was only a few months old, and Roger, at the age of eighteen, chose to rear the baby himself, studying and working part-time as he did so. Now he’s achieved his dream. He owns the gay bar and Pete has graduated college. He wants to renovate the bar but that means telling his secret. Is it time for him to put himself first or not?

STORY EXCERPT

Atticus cherished and fostered his role as the bad boy in the Hill family. From the time he could say his first word—which was no—he knew his older brother, Kai, was the driven one, the one who would ensure he succeeded. Atticus had the same black hair and black eyes as his father and brother, but he didn’t want to be a carbon copy of either of them. He rode a Harley motorcycle, always dressed completely in black, and grew his hair long and shaggy.

Right now he stood just inside the gay bar, looking at the stage for the drummer. Midnight on Tenth was the only decent gay bar in town, and Atticus was a regular visitor here, although he seldom picked up a one-night stand anymore. He was thirty-nine and even he was ready to find Mr. Right and settle down.

His decision had been hastened by his father’s edict nine months ago to all six of his sons that they had twelve months to settle down and give him some grandchildren. Since then, all five of his brothers had found their own Mr. Rights. Hell, his perfectionist brother, Storm, had even married his Mr. Right.

There were also two grandchildren for his parents to dote on. Christabelle, the girl his oldest brother Kai and his partner, Alan, had rescued, had a son, CC, born on Christmas Day. And Jude, his golden-haired, stunningly good-looking brother, was in a relationship with Stuart, who had a baby daughter, Kathleen.

Sawyer, brother number four, was happily settled with police lieutenant Mitch, and just recently his baby brother, Ross, had set up house with Perry Scott, a carpenter. Which left him the odd one out. Thirty-nine and with no one special.

No one who even made his pulses pound the slightest bit faster. Except maybe the drummer.

The drummer was tall and muscular, with brown hair and eyes, and a lot of piercings. Atticus could imagine tugging on the rings that adorned his body while they fucked. The man put a hell of a lot of effort into his drumming. He usually wore sleeveless shirts, and his skin glowed with sweat by the end of a set of music. Atticus liked the idea that his bulk was all muscle, not fat. He was a big man himself, six feet three and solid, and he liked to fuck hard and fast. He needed a fit and strong partner, not some frail twink who’d break if he pushed him against a wall and slammed his dick into his ass with no preparation.

The drummer. Mmm. The drummer was the only man who’d had even the slightest effect on his libido in months. It was time for Atticus to revert to his old bad habits and fuck the man against a wall to see if he still wanted to know him afterward. Unfortunately, in the past, the answer had been mostly no. But maybe this time he’d find someone who was more than a one-night stand. Someone who suited him. The drummer was his only hope.

He waited until the set of songs ended and then pushed his way through the crowd, arriving at the edge of the stage just as the drummer was leaving it.

“Buy you a drink?” he asked.

The drummer nodded. “You’re Atticus. I’ve seen you here often, although not so much lately.”

That was a surprise. He didn’t have the faintest idea of the drummer’s name. Hell, he couldn’t even remember the name of the band, yet the drummer knew him.

“What would you like to drink?” he asked as they moved toward the bar.

“Espresso caipirinha, please.”

Atticus just stared. He’d never heard of it.

“The barman knows.”

Yeah, well he would. That was his job. Atticus would Google it on his cell phone later.

Once again he pushed his way through the crowd. That was the advantage of being six three. He could see how to get to the head of the line a lot faster than short people.

“A longneck and an espresso caipirinha, please?” he asked.

He watched the bartender prepare the drink, but it wasn’t easy to see, as he turned his back after he added the ice coffee and Atticus had already figured that bit out himself.

He paid the man and shoved his way back out of the crowd. The drummer, whose name he still didn’t know, was leaning against the wall. Atticus was surprised he hadn’t grabbed a table, and then he wondered if maybe the staff wasn’t supposed to. No, he was sure he’d seen some of them sitting before.

“You know my name. What’s yours?”

“Roger. This way.”

Atticus followed him around the side of the bar to a narrow alcove with just one small table there. Roger sat so he could watch the crowd, leaving Atticus with his back to the room. He didn’t like that at all and moved his chair to the side of the table where he was beside Roger and could look at the crowd by turning his head to the side.

Roger grinned. “I’ve never met a nervous bikie before.”

“I’m not nervous. I just like to know what’s happening.”

“That seems reasonable. Why did you want to buy me a drink?”

Atticus took a long pull on his beer and noticed Roger just took a tiny sip of his drink.

“I want to fuck you. Tonight. Is that okay?”

Everything is peaceful and happy until the morning when Stuart goes for his usual daily run pushing Kathleen in her baby carriage, and they’re attacked by Tom Frame who is convinced they’ve stolen his son and is determined to get even with them all, kill Chris, and take CC.

STORY EXCERPT

It wasn’t fair. Being the youngest of six sons sucked great big hairy donkey’s balls. All Ross’s life, his older brothers had gotten the best deal every way, every time, and he’d always been stuck with the leftovers no one else wanted.
Take his apartment for example. Right now the family home was overrun with tradesmen renovating two of his brothers’ apartments plus building a whole new playroom for the two grandkids. And what was he getting? Absolutely nothing. Zip, zilch, nada, a big fat zero.
Of course his apartment was on the short side of the rectangle so there was no extra space for him to expand his apartment into anyway. And he didn’t have a kid to use the playroom. He didn’t even have a partner. Four of his brothers were all happily partnered up, but not him. Oh no. As always, he was overlooked, neglected, left until last.
If he dared open his mouth to say anything, anything at all, one of his older brothers would throw him in the swimming pool. And right now, March in Ohio, was not the time for a swim. Likely he’d catch his death of pneumonia. Would anyone care? Absolutely not.
Ross stopped pacing and his mental rant. Actually that last bit was unfair. His brothers did care about him, but they would still throw him into the pool.
“Why can’t I ever be first? Be the cherished, most important one? Why can’t I even find a man I like enough for more than a one-night stand?”
Ross stood at the doorway of his not-being-extended-dammit apartment and stared across the courtyard garden at a group of tradesmen framing up the third-story extension above his parents’ apartment. One of the men was incredibly yummy in just the way Ross liked his men. Big, broad shoulders, bulging with muscles, tanned arms, and longish hair held off his face with a bandana.
Ross left his apartment and walked into the garden. The courtyard was in the center of the house, which had blank walls to the outside and all the windows and doors opening into this central area. In addition to the swimming pool, there was a large barbecue and a Zen garden his mother regularly changed around. He stood looking at the intricately placed pebbles and sand brushed into patterns, but it didn’t completely soothe his disgruntled humor.
Stuart emerged from the apartment he shared with Ross’s brother Jude. Stuart was wearing shorts, a T-shirt, and running shoes, and pushing the baby carriage holding his two-week-old daughter, Kathleen. Stuart and Kathleen had moved in with Jude a week ago, and for the past four days, Stuart had gone running, pushing the baby carriage, every day.
Ross thought he was quite mad. It was two miles to the park, half a mile around the park, and two miles back home. For some unknown reason, Stuart seemed to think that was a nice run. Not to Ross’s mind it wasn’t, but he waved to Stuart anyway. What was that saying? Different strokes for different folks? Yeah, well, he wasn’t running from here to the park for anyone. He wasn’t planning to take his sweater off anytime soon either. The sun might be shining, but the weather was a long way short of hot.
Just a week ago they’d all been sitting on Lanikai Beach, Oahu, sipping champagne at the wedding of his brother Storm to his partner, Cruz. Ross sighed. Damn, that seemed like a million years ago as well as a million miles away. Well, it was more like five thousand miles, but it might as well have been a million. Ross kicked at one of the pebbles on the edge of the Zen garden moodily.
“Hey! What the fuck are you doing?” yelled a loud, angry voice.
Guiltily, Ross pulled his foot back from his mother’s garden and looked around for who had dared to chastise him. That voice sure as hell wasn’t his mother’s. But no one was looking at him. However, all the tradesmen on the roof were staring out to the road, and the big brawny one, the yummy one, was waving his arms around.
“Stop that.”
“Leave them alone,” yelled a few of the others.
Oh fuck! Was someone hurting baby Kathleen?
Ross raced for the exit from the courtyard, a wooden door, throwing it open and charging outside. One hundred yards down the road, someone was trying to pull the baby carriage out of Stuart’s hands. Stuart was holding on with all his strength, his heels digging back onto the concrete path and all his weight thrown against his opponent.
The workmen yelled even louder, and out of the corner of his eye, Ross saw a rope thrown down the wall, but he had no time to worry about what they were doing. He ran as fast as he could and launched himself onto the back of the man trying to grab Kathleen’s baby carriage.
Ross weighed more than Stuart, but probably not as much as the attacker, who had quite a solid build. Between him and Stuart, though, it was enough to make the man let go and swing his arm up in a punch toward the baby carriage. In response, Stuart shrieked and dived between the man and Kathleen.
And then another man was there was well. He hauled the attacker around by his shirt and slammed his fist into his face, dropping him to the ground.
Stuart was still screaming, “Kathleen, Kathleen,” and snatched his daughter out of the carriage, holding her in his arms.
Kathleen must have been distressed by all the noise and movement, and she started to howl as well.
Ross grabbed the attacker and turned him over. The man swung his fists up in the air, but this time, Ross was prepared for them and blocked his hands with his forearm.
“Frame. What the fuck are you doing here?”

STORY EXCERPT

Jude Hill kept his gaze firmly on the hand clutching his drink. It seemed as though every time he looked up, every female in the entire state of Hawaii tried to come on to him. He cursed his golden blond hair and bright blue eyes and his clean-cut all-American good looks. He felt like asking someone to paint a sign for him to carry saying, “I’m gay!” and was just about frustrated enough to do it. Although he supposed the women would then try to convert him instead of leaving him alone. If only a cute man started chasing him he might be interested. So many of his brothers had found their soul mates, and he hadn’t. And never would unless all these females would go the fuck away.
Jude sighed heavily. That was why he was here in Hawaii in the first place. His brother Storm and Storm’s fiancé, Cruz, were getting married on Wednesday, and the entire family had come to Lanikai Beach, Oahu, to celebrate. It seemed as if, between them, they’d filled up half the hotel. Jude, his five brothers, three of them with partners, his parents, and his little sister and her two-month-old son. Even Cruz’s elderly parents were here. Between them all, they were quite a crowd, and so many men had drawn the attention of the ladies. The joke was that they were all gay. All six brothers, though not his sister Chris. However she still hadn’t completely gotten over the asshole idiot who’d gotten her pregnant and then tried to ruin her life. Right now her whole heart was focused on baby CC.
Jude wondered if he could pretend the kid was his. Maybe then the women would leave him alone. But that wouldn’t be fair to Christabelle. CC was hers and hers alone, although they all adored him. She wasn’t even his real sister. His oldest brother had found her being attacked in a park when she was pregnant and brought her home for their mother, a retired nurse, to care for. Seraphina had longed for a daughter all her life, and in no time at all, Chris had snuck into all their hearts, becoming their daughter and sister. CC was the grandchild Jude’s parents had longed for and had a veritable plethora of doting uncles.
Just then Chris walked toward him, holding a smiling CC in her arms. The baby was wearing a garment he’d just learned was called a rashie. He had no idea what the word was slang for, but the little blue suit was designed to prevent his delicate baby skin from sunburn. He’d pulled off his sunhat, though, and was holding it in his hand and crowing with laughter.
Chris slid into the seat beside him and tried to put the baby’s hat back on one-handed.
“Let me.”
“Real men wear their sunhats, CC. You really won’t like it if you end up with a burned nose.” He tied the blue ribbons under CC’s dimpled chin as he spoke, and the baby observed him seriously. Jude didn’t know how much CC understood, but he made no attempt to pull the hat off immediately.
“What would you like to drink?” he asked Chris.
“Just a soda please. Sprite if they have it.”
He nodded. For a moment he’d forgotten she was still only eighteen, not legally allowed to drink, although he supposed everyone would turn a blind eye when it came time to toast the grooms at the wedding.
He got himself another light beer as well as Chris’s Sprite and was walking back from the bar when he noticed a very attractive man with red-brown hair sitting under a beach umbrella. At first he thought the man was staring at Chris. She was beautiful. Still too thin to his mind but not frail looking, as she’d been when she’d first moved into their house. Right now, dressed in a sarong in shades of purple, mauve, and lilac, with purple flip-flops and matching purple fingernails and toenails, she was well worth gazing at.
But the man wasn’t looking at her. He was staring at CC, almost inhaling every tiny move the baby made. For a moment Jude wondered if he was a pedophile or kidnapper until he saw the tears shining in the man’s eyes.
Oh shit. Had the man recently had his own infant die? How tragic.

Buy link: http://www.bookstrand.com/book/nice-guy-wants-man-to-love

STORY EXCERPT

He’d recognized that big biker with the shaggy black hair the moment he’d seen him at the house that had been graffitied. Atticus his name was, and he was a regular at the gay bar, Midnight on Tenth. He was devastatingly handsome in a bad-boy kind of way, but not Mitch’s type at all. No, the attorney was more the kind of man Mitch liked. Quiet, intelligent, friendly. Of course the bad boy might be intelligent and friendly as well, but Mitch didn’t find badness the huge turn-on some other men obviously did.

Mitch found himself thinking about that home and the people in it several times when things in the precinct were quiet. The place had about a dozen men living there as well as the one pregnant little teenage girl they were all so protective of, and the old man and his wife. The ex-boyfriend who harassed her was damn lucky some of them hadn’t chopped him up and used him as plant fertilizer in the gardens of the home. The biker looked more than capable of doing such a thing, and some of the other men had seemed pretty cross at him as well.

But there was nothing Mitch had been able to do about the case. The video footage was blurry, the men’s faces were mostly hidden, and they didn’t have enough of the license plate to make a records search worth the time and effort for a vandalism case.

Well, that wasn’t completely true. He’d actually run the plate himself when he didn’t have any urgent work to do, but there were over a hundred matches so he hadn’t done anything more about it.

It was strange. He’d never expected to find “the one.” He only had to look around himself to see too many police officers completely in love with their wives or husbands and their marriages falling apart. Police work was never neat and orderly or eight ’til five. Not only did they work rotating shifts covering weekends and holidays and twenty-four-hour days, but also, when something urgent happened, shifts went out the window and cops kept working. That was not conducive to family life. Partners might understand in their mind that criminals had to be stopped, but when that meant flights to long-awaited events were missed or dad never ever saw Junior hit the winning run at baseball, people became a whole lot less understanding and demanded that their partner make the effort to be present for special days.

Mitch had no intention of breaking a kid’s heart by not being there for something incredibly important. Saying no to kids of his own was doable. Saying no to ever finding his soul mate was a much bigger challenge. However, the likelihood of meeting a man who would not only understand in his mind but also accept what had to be in his heart might be impossible. Which meant enjoying a one-night stand from time to time at the gay bar was about the best he could hope for.

Mitch picked up his coffee and took a mouthful, only to spit it back into the cup. “Yuk! When it did that get cold?”

He stood up, holding his cup, to go and make fresh coffee for himself when the landline on his desk rang. Instantly he sat down and picked up the telephone with one hand while setting the cup down and pulling a notepad and pen into the center of his desk with the other.

“Clarke.”

“It’s Sawyer Hill here. I hope I’m not calling you at an inconvenient time.”

“Not at all. I was just about to go and get some coffee.” And what a stupid statement that is. Now he’ll feel embarrassed he’s keeping me away from my beverage.

“I have a list of the names of the young men who were prepared to follow Tom Frame’s suggestion and libel Christabelle Nelson. The list isn’t confidential. The men had to issue public apologies. I just wondered if it would be possible to check the license plate against these names. There are twenty of them, including Tom himself.”

Mitch could hear a slight note of uncertainty in Sawyer’s voice, and that was very telling. The man was an attorney, used to speaking in public. Well, his job was arguing a case in public. So the fact that he was a fraction hesitant indicated he was well aware that he was pushing the envelope to make this request.

“Searches have to be justified in the budget, and this case has no budget,” said Mitch. It was the best he could do. He hadn’t refused, but he hadn’t agreed either.

Sawyer sighed. “That seems to be the way it is everywhere these days. The matter is very important to the family. Mr. Frame has been an extreme source of trouble to Ms. Nelson. If the task could be delegated to a civilian worker or an off-duty officer, the family would be prepared to pay for the time the search would take and any costs incurred.”

That was interesting. He’d guessed the family wasn’t penniless living in such a huge compound. Besides, searching for twenty names wouldn’t take all that long really. Although Sawyer didn’t know there’d only been about a hundred potential matches.

“E-mail me the list and I’ll see what I can organize. You understand that potential matches are no indication of guilt. There may be a passel of them.”

“I do understand, but if the car was stolen, it might also help you catch the thief.”

“That’s true.” Except that he already knew no car matching the part of the plate they’d been given had been stolen that night. That was what had led him to run the search in the first place.

Mitch gave Sawyer his e-mail address and heard the keys clicking as he did so. They made some desultory conversation as the file came through, and then Sawyer thanked Mitch and hung up.

But Mitch knew he’d check the list in his own time, and now that he had Sawyer’s e-mail address he could contact him again. Besides, no matter what the outcome of the search, he knew damn well he would be reaching out to the good-looking attorney. Nothing might come of it, but the opportunity was too attractive to ignore.

“Perfectionist Wants Perfect Man to Love”

OUT TODAY!! “Perfectionist Wants Perfect Man to Love” (MM) by Cara Adams “A Man to Love” book 2

Storm, the second youngest of the six Hill brothers, has worked hard to make everything in his life perfect. If only Cruz Baker were taller, thinner, richer...more like him. He’s attractive and a good attorney, but messy. However, Cruz is determined to teach Storm to relax.
Storm admits Cruz has helped Christabelle Nelson win her court cases against her badly behaved ex-boyfriend, but he doesn’t behave the way Storm needs his perfect partner to act. Life is much better, Storm is sure, if everything is just exactly right, like he orders it.
Cruz wants to demonstrate to Storm that a little disorganization, some relaxation, and even the occasional mess can make life so much more interesting.
Do opposites really attract? Will Storm loosen up enough to even look properly at Cruz? And will Tom Frame go away and leave Chris alone?

http://www.bookstrand.com/book/perfectionist-wants-perfect-man-to-love

Story Excerpt

All through their time in the courtroom, Storm had found his gaze wandering back to Cruz. He was here to support Chris, not to listen to her attorney, but in court, Cruz was strong, powerful, and smart. He looked imposing and attractive in his charcoal suit. There was something about the outfit that turned Cruz into a very handsome man. Normally he wasn’t particularly tall, and he definitely needed to lose ten pounds off his waistline—maybe even twenty pounds—but right now, he was eye-catching, and no one could ignore him. Especially not Storm.
Storm wondered if part of his lack of willingness to get closer to Cruz was that Cruz had the same coloring as himself, medium-brown hair and brown eyes, not golden blond hair like Storm’s stunningly good-looking brother, Jude, or shaggy black hair that screamed “bad boy” like his brother Atticus.
Even his eyes were boringly average rather than bright blue like his mother’s or piercingly black like his father’s. Storm might have missed out on all the best genetics, being the fifth of six sons in the family, but he made certain his life was as perfect inside those confines as he could arrange it. He would never eat a second slice of cake and risk it giving him a potbelly.
But there was still something about Cruz that called to him even though Cruz had accused him of being in a rut which was completely untrue.
So why do I keep looking at him and thinking about him? What’s wrong with me? He’s not the right man for me. I need someone who’s moving up in his career. Someone like Kai or Alan. Successful men, like me.
“Come on, Storm. It’s time to celebrate,” said Ross, his youngest brother, pushing his shoulder. Storm jumped to his feet and followed his family out of the courtroom.
“Where are we going?” he asked.
“Chris. This is your celebration. Where shall we go for lunch?”
“I don’t know.”
“Name somewhere you’ve heard of that you’d like to try out,” suggested Kai, smiling at her.
She was still thin but not as frail as when their mother had taken her under her wing. Chris’s arms and legs were skinny, but the baby was growing well, and Chris’s frame no longer looked as though it wouldn’t be able to support her. One of his brothers had said she looked like she’d swallowed a basketball, and that was true. She wasn’t rounded all over like many pregnant women. She was skinny with a baby stuck out in front. But she was smiling and happy, and it was time to celebrate winning her court case.
Although if Storm ever met Tom in a dark alley, he wasn’t promising not to break his nose or something similar. The man was an asshole not to appreciate Chris.
Chris smiled like a normal teenager, and said, “Can we please go to Dirty Dick’s then? My parents would never let me go there, and Tom refused to take me because he said it was only for boys. Which is a lie because I know girls who’ve been there. Eating there today would be the most amazing thing.”
“Of course.”
“Let’s do it.”
“There are enough of us here to protect you and Mom.”
Storm wasn’t really pleased with his brothers agreeing so easily. Dirty Dick’s wasn’t R-rated or anything, but it encouraged loud behavior. Everyone sat at enormously long benches and wore paper bibs around their necks as they ate ribs and fries with their fingers.
Storm could see himself having to take the suit he was wearing to the dry cleaners immediately after lunch.
But then, this was Christabelle’s day. She deserved to do whatever she wanted to. Soon enough she was going to become an adult with a child to care for, instead of picking out a prom dress or whatever girls her age usually did. Besides, this sounded like her way of raising her middle finger to that asshole, Tom, and he wholeheartedly approved of her doing that.
They all gathered around the end of one long bench, his two parents, five brothers, Kai’s lover, Alan, and beside Chris, Cruz, her lawyer and Sawyer’s colleague. Not the man he was interested in. He absolutely was not interested in anyone who drove a beatenup Ford. The only man he would ever be interested in was one just like him. Organized. Neat, controlled, with his eyes on the main focus of life, the goals he planned to achieve.
While they waited for their ribs and fries to be bought to them, they drank light beer out of tankards, except for Chris, who was not only pregnant but also underage, and Cruz, who never drank during business hours.
“I thought long, boozy lunches were the mainstay of an attorney’s life,” he teased, grinning at Sawyer, who was drinking his beer.
“I wish. Most days it’s a burger as I walk back to my office from court,” complained Sawyer.
“Or a brown bag lunch brought from home,” added Cruz.
“What made you decide not to drink during the day, Cruz?” asked Alan, proving once again that he was damn smart and a good match for Kai, Storm’s bossy millionaire oldest brother.
“People tend to underestimate me,” he said, looking right at Storm. “I’m not rich like Kai, or handsome like Jude, or driven like Storm. I’m just me. But I like to think that during the working day every brain cell is alert enough to help me make decisions.”
I’m not driven! I’m just determined to keep progressing up the career ladder as fast as possible.
But maybe I have underestimated him. He certainly won Chris’s case without ever appearing to break a sweat.
Storm started eating his ribs, with his fingers, while thinking over what he knew about Cruz, instead of joining in the loud banter around the table.

Millionaire Wants Man to Love

The first book in the "A Man to Love" series is out now. A new book will release every two weeks until all six brothers find their Mr. Right.

Millionaire Wants Man to Love: Blurb
Kai Hill’s father has told his six gay sons to find partners within a year. Kai has a million-dollar business, the Hill Corporation, to run. He’s got no time for romance. However when he and Alan Lewis meet while rescuing a teenage girl, Kai starts to think he could make time in his life for a man like Alan.

Christabelle Nelson has been spurned by the father of her child and thrown out of her home by her family. Kai goes walking to burn off his annoyance at his family but he can’t ignore an injured girl. Alan goes jogging at night to relax enough to sleep. Finding an injured teenager isn’t very relaxing, but he can’t ignore her either.

The entire Hill family becomes involved in caring for Christabelle and her child. Meanwhile Kai and Alan finally find a moment to get to know each other and discover they have a multitude of things in common.

STORY EXCERPT

Kai tugged on the door to ensure it was locked behind him. It was a habit engrained in all of them from their earliest days because every room opened onto the courtyard. Their protection was in the blank walls and heavy entry door, not in anything inside the building.

His parents had been able to buy such a huge plot of land forty years ago because this was on the outskirts of town and on the poorer side. It was by no means a slum, or a dangerous neighborhood, but it wasn’t a good place for people to wander alone at night unless they were alert. Right now, Kai would welcome a few punks trying to remove his wallet. He’d taken off his suit coat and necktie before dinner, but he was still wearing business clothing, and nicer clothing at that, although not Armani or anything showy. He preferred to look middle of the road. It was always much better that people he might have to bid against for a contract underestimated him.

Kai shoved his hands deep in his pants pockets and strode along the sidewalk. Two miles to the park, half a mile around the park, and two miles back home should be enough to rid his body of the adrenaline, let him forget all about his father’s ultimatum, and get his mind focused back on his real life. For example, how to sort out the Standforth contract.

It was a tricky piece of business dealings. He was almost certain they were hiding a problem. That contract didn’t smell right. Oh, it looked like something his company could do, but it also made him wary, and there was no way he was going to sign it unless he was certain there were no hidden traps in it.

Kai was deep in thought as he entered the park and turned left to circumnavigate it. His shoes sounded loud on the concrete, and he was aware that he hadn’t seen anyone else for five minutes at least. It wasn’t that late. Maybe eleven. There would normally have been a few people out jogging or walking their dogs. He stopped thinking about the Standforth contract and paid more attention to his surroundings. He didn’t want to meet a gang of thugs. One thug didn’t bother him. Nor did two. Growing up in a family of six boys had taught him more than he ever needed to know about fighting, both clean and dirty. But he wasn’t stupid, and an entire gang would be sure to pound the shit out of him. He didn’t have time to spend a week in the hospital recovering from broken bones. Did they even have decent Wi-Fi at the local hospital? How would he answer his e-mails?

Up ahead, he noticed the park lights had been smashed, and the trees made everything dark. That definitely doesn’t look good. I’ll turn back.

A female scream cut though the air. “No! Leave me alone!”

He started to run toward her, and from his left, a jogger he hadn’t noticed raced across the park heading for the trees ahead of him. A punk burst out of the shrubbery holding a backpack across his chest, coming straight toward Kai. Kai launched himself forward, surprising the criminal and smashing him down onto the concrete. The punk dropped the backpack and wiggled away from Kai. Kai grabbed the backpack, figuring the woman’s possessions were more important than giving the criminal a punch.

Gripping the backpack, he raced forward and found the jogger bending over a huddled figure pressed against the tree.

“She’s hurt. Call the paramedics.”

“No, no. I don’t have any money. I’ll be fine.”

“She’s bleeding. She’s not fine.” The jogger’s face was pale and worried in the dim light under the trees.

Kai pulled his cell phone out of his pocket. “I’ll pay for you to see a doctor.”

“I can’t pay you back. I don’t want your charity. I’ll be fine.” She swiped a hand across her face, and Kai caught a glimpse of hollow eyes surrounded by black shadows, streaks of blood, and a swollen belly underneath a too-short, too-tight T-shirt.

Fucking hell. She was injured, argumentative, and pregnant.

Then he had a brilliant idea. “Will you let my mother bandage your injuries at least? She’s a retired nurse.”

“I…” Her voice trailed away, and she slumped against the jogger.

“I’ll take that as a yes. Where’s your car? I walked here.”

A New Direction for me!

Ever since my very first book was contracted in 2012 (“The Dom Unleashes his Wolf”) I’ve written ménage stories. Always there’s one woman with two or sometimes three men. Most of my books include BDSM, sometimes the really kinky stuff, other times just a little tying up and spanking. And finally most of them have been shape-shifter stories, frequently wolves, although here have also been panthers, and a few other species: a shark, a bear, a hawk.

So when I started thinking about a new series of six brothers in a family, I was waiting for the women to appear in my head. The heroines these brothers would fall in love with. But one after the other all six brothers told me they were gay. They also remained one hundred percent human. Not a shape-shifter among them.

“So how is this supposed to work? I write shape-shifter ménage,” I asked.

Kai, the oldest brother, frowned fiercely at me. “You will write our stories. You will guide each of us to our own Mr. Right.”
Um. Okay.

And the “A Man to Love” series was born.

“I will not tolerate you ungrateful, useless passel of brats any longer. It’s enough that I end up with six sons who are all gay. That I can live with. But it’s long past time some of you—no, all of you—should have found a partner, settled down, and given me grandbabies.”
“A granddaughter.”
The old man ignored his wife’s interruption.
“You are forty years old, Kai. Forty. Four zero. At your age I’d already been married fifteen years and had fathered five sturdy sons. Even you have no excuse, Ross. I’d been married close to five years by your age, and Kai was on the way. This is my ultimatum. By this time next year you are to all have found a person who you seriously believe you can be happy with.” Kai’s father frowned at them from under his thick black eyebrows, his piercing black eyes seeming to see right through Kai’s chest and into his heart. The same brows and eyes he saw every morning in the mirror when he shaved.
“That’s not fair. Kai’s had ten years more than me to—”
“Shut up, Ross.”
Three of his brothers spoke at the same time to his whiny, spoiled-rotten youngest brother. “That’s not fair” had just about been the first words Ross had ever uttered, and thirty years on, nothing had changed.
But finding a man to love wasn’t going to be easy. Kai had worked hard to earn his five million dollars. It took every moment of his day and night. There was no time left for romance. He crossed his arms and leaned back in his chair.
His two parents, five brothers, and himself were seated around the huge old mahogany dining table they’d eaten at for as long as he could remember. Except these days he mostly had food sent into his office and ate while working. Only his father’s ranting had made him leave work early enough to attend this family meal, and already he was wishing he was back at the office. Abusing a supplier for not delivering an order on time would let him get some of the anger out of his body in a socially acceptable way. Pounding his fists through the dining room drywall, as he wanted to, would only mean he’d be back here again tomorrow replacing it himself.
His parents had never made a fuss when things were broken. But the perpetrator always had to fix it himself and to their father’s high standards, which usually meant they were a hell of a lot more careful after that mistake.
He supposed his father was right. With six sons aged from thirty to forty, a grandchild or two was not an unreasonable expectation, even though they were all gay. Kai had a pair of gay friends who had two children from a surrogate mother, and adoption was also a possibility. Adoption offered the added bonus of ensuring the kid was the granddaughter his mother longed for. Finding a man he wanted to spend the next thirty years with, though, was a lot more difficult. Hell, finding a man he wanted to spend more than thirty minutes with was almost impossible.
He’d long ago given up taking a partner to the formal dinners and parties he had to attend. Either their banal conversation drove him crazy inside ten minutes or their desire to skip the formalities and go straight to bed ruined any hope of him getting any work done. Because that was what partiers and dinners were for Kai—an opportunity to buy and sell and to meet people who could advance the Hill Corporation for him.
Kai was the Hill Corporation, and the business was much more important than presenting his mother with the granddaughter she longed for. Seraphina Hill had given her husband, Wayne, son after son after son, hiding her disappointment at the lack of a girl in the sure knowledge the old man was thrilled with the boys as signs of his virility.
As they grew older, she started mentioning her desire to meet her future daughters-in-law, and when it became obvious that wasn’t going to happen either, she’d started talking about a granddaughter or two.
Well, they weren’t going to come from him. Kai had no time for that rubbish. He had a corporation to run, and he’d already devoted an entire evening to being with his family. He pushed back his chair and walked to his mom’s seat. “Thank you, Mom. The beef was delicious, and I loved the roasted artichokes.”
He glanced at the table full of scowling or thoughtful brothers, said a general, “Good-bye,” and left the dining room.

The first book in the series, "Millionaire Wants Man to Love" (Kai's story) is already available for pre-order. A new book in this series will release every two weeks until all six brothers have told their stories.

Panther shape-shifters Saxon, Hardy, and Bram Stewart are planning to break into that house, too, and she’s in their way. The last thing they need is a feisty amateur getting in the way of professionals like them. Leah’s family badly needs the money selling her father’s stamp albums will bring them. She doesn’t plan to let anyone stop her from retrieving her property, not even if there are three of them, all identical, big, strong, black haired, and delicious looking.
When catching her, tying her up, and locking her in the trunk of their car doesn’t stop Leah for very long, the three men have to think of other ways of attracting her attention. Maybe if they chained her up in their dungeon, naked, that might work?

Maia is sweet and willing and everything three panthers could ever want in a woman, but are things moving much too fast? Should they slow down and back away for a while? Or will the Reeds rush in and claim Maia? Every time they visit or so much as turn around, the Reeds are right there, waiting.

But most of all she likes the three big, blond, blue-eyed men who she must call Master in the Cave of Correction.

Mackenzie Weymouth (Kenz) came here to the island with her friends Maddy, Aria, and Piper, to experience BDSM and hot ménage sex. So far Kenz’s three delicious male tour guides, Colter, Declan, and Asher Lang, have only shown her the island’s scenery. It’s very pretty indeed, but not at all what she planned to do during her week-long vacation.
The three brothers, all panther shape-shifters, are eager to get to know Kenz a whole lot better. Preferably naked and chained up in their dungeon. But they’re tour guides and showing her the beaches and coves, the hills and vistas, are their job. Just when they’re finally about to introduce her to the delights of the dungeon and the BDSM games they’ve so carefully planned for her, they learn Hurricane Nathan is heading toward the island. Surely fate couldn’t possibly be this cruel to them.

Ryder, Zac, and Eliot Wade have never hosted a guest before and are determined to take it very slowly. But their cute blonde guest doesn’t seem to understand their methods. She’s always polite, but it’s clear she wants to try out the dungeon. Surely rushing her would be wrong? Their plans have been prepared so that everything will be perfect for her, after a slow, steady buildup, but Piper is clearly getting impatient and the week should be all about her needs.

STORY EXCERPT

Piper climbed off the bed, smoothing the blanket as she did so, and wandered into the bathroom. It was much larger than a normal hotel bathroom. For a start, there was a full-sized tub as well as a standalone shower. For two days she’d been picturing herself pressed up against the glass wall of the shower with one of her three hosts fucking her from behind. Or even better, herself sandwiched between two of them, a cock in her cunt and another one in her ass. She’d never had two men at once, but there was nothing wrong with her imagination. She was sure double fucking would work just fine in that nice, big shower, with steam coating the men’s chests and hot water pummeling their bodies as they pummeled into her.
Piper sighed. Right now the only pummeling going on was the rain on the roof. It must be some nasty storm out there. It sounded really loud.
She opened the door to the stairs, flipped on the light as she’d done so many times before, and walked down the stairs and into her cave. That part of the advertising had delivered on its promises. There was an honest-to-God genuine cave underneath her cottage, with real rock walls. It was furnished with a St. Andrews Cross, a spanking bench, and a rack on the wall holding three different-sized paddles; two canes, one thin and the other thick; two whips, one with a forked end; and several floggers, one with a dildo for a handle.
She could imagine the men using those toys on her, flogging her and then fucking her with the dildo. Or maybe one fucking her cunt with the dildo while another one paddled her ass. She longed to know what being whipped and caned would feel like. Hell, would she even like it? Piper was sure she was a sub. She knew because she ached for a Dom to take control of her life and guide her into serenity.
Her job was a shitfest of deadlines impossible to meet, a manager who was a complete and utter narcissist, as well as a bully, and a collection of colleagues who came and left with dizzying speed. Her latest assistant hadn’t even lasted until lunchtime, and the one before that had only stayed three days. Piper wished she was free to quit herself at least ten times on an average day. She’d even taken to keeping a list on her cell phone of the number of times each day her manager told her to lie or cheat in case he tried to make her take the blame for it. She never lied or cheated, but she had to walk a really fine line between fact and what the manager wanted, and it drained her energy completely. She handed in her work correctly and truthfully. She left it to him to massage the data, twist the facts, lie, and cheat to enhance his sales results.
She’d really, really hoped this vacation would leave her refreshed and restored so she could go home and find herself a Dom. If her sex life was good, then her shitty work life wouldn’t be so soul-destroying. Right now she wasn’t sure she’d ever find out. Next week she’d be home again, back at work again, and likely nothing would have changed.
Maybe instead of cleaning her already clean apartment every Sunday she should look at moving to another state, a warmer, sunnier one, where even if her job was horrible she could go hiking or to the beach on the weekends.
California? But she’d heard there was a lot of unemployment there.
Florida? But she was frightened of alligators.
Hawaii? But that would be a hell of a long journey.
Texas?
Her grandmother spoke in her mind. You just stay right where you are, dear. Everything will work out fine. You mark my words.
Piper dropped the flogger she was holding. “Shit, Grandma. Can’t you knock or something before talking to me? I wasn’t expecting you. Are you sure everything will be okay?”
Piper closed her eyes and concentrated on picturing her beloved grandma sitting on her favorite cane chair on the stoop of her old house. But she didn’t speak to Piper again.
Still, Piper did feel more relaxed. Sometimes she had a full conversation with the old lady. Sometimes, like now, Grandma just entered her thoughts, left a message, and disappeared. But her visits always made Piper feel better. She picked up the flogger and hung it back on the rack before heading upstairs again.
Piper hadn’t even reached the top when her cottage door opened and all three of her hosts came inside. Each was dripping wet despite wearing a poncho and a raincoat, and each was loaded down with backpacks and parcels. What now? Would she finally experience sex and BDSM or was something quite different about to happen?

Story Excerpt

Mackenzie Weymouth had spent her entire life avoiding sports in any form. Her idea of physical activity was sitting on the couch and picking up the remote to change the channel on the TV when football or baseball came on. Even when it came to walking, Kenz considered the distance between where she parked her car in the employee parking lot and her desk a perfectly adequate amount of walking for the day. Although, if she was honest, she didn’t mind walking somewhere pretty on a nice sunny day with friends. It was just that the planets almost never aligned, so all the elements weren’t in place, and she’d rather stay at home.

And now these men were expecting her to get into a teeny-tiny boat and paddle it?

“I’m pretty sure I didn’t sign up to go in one of those things,” she said firmly, pushing her glasses up her nose.

“Well, ma’am, that’s true. But it’s either get in the kayak and see the island from the water or else walk around it,” the truly delicious-looking guide in his navy blue Caves of Correction T-shirt said.

“Walk? Up all those hills along those narrow dirt paths?” Kenz was annoyed at the screeching sound in her voice. But seriously, walk? Wasn’t that a rude four-letter word?

“Yes, ma’am.”

Kenz stared at Mr. Yummy. The edges of his lips were tilting up in a smile. He was fucking teasing her.

One of the other men wearing the same uniform T-shirt and making no attempt whatsoever to hide the fact that he was laughing at her said, “When I was a teenager I broke my arm and my foot so I couldn’t use crutches to get around. Mom wheeled me to school each day in a wheelbarrow. If you like I could go get it. We could even put some pillows in it so your ass won’t get banged against the steel as we take you over the rocks.”

Kenz was very tempted to tell him to do that, but she had a feeling he really would and she’d end up having to walk instead of being bounced out of a wheelbarrow. At least in a boat she wouldn’t be likely to end up walking too much.

“No, that’s okay. I’ll get in the fucking boat.”

“Kayak,” the third man said, correcting her.

All three men were totally delicious. All had black hair and really dark eyes, along with muscles bulging out of their uniform shirts and tanned skin.

Two of them were wearing board shorts, and their legs were as tanned as their arms. The third one, the leader, rolled his pants legs up before stepping into the water and holding the boat—kayak—still for her. The middle one, the one who’d mentioned the wheelbarrow, held her arm and led her to the kayak.

“Step into the center of it. I’ll hold you steady while you sit down.”

The boat wobbled and bounced on the water, but his hand under her elbow did support her as she climbed in, sat on the narrow seat, and tucked her legs into the space in front of her. She pushed her glasses up her nose again, and pulled her hat down tighter over her hair.

The bossy one climbed onto the seat behind her while the nice one handed her a paddle. He said, “You dip the oar—”

“In your dreams, buddy. You might have convinced me to get in the boat, but no way am I paddling it.”

“Well, don’t drop it and lose it,” the man sitting behind her said.

That was a point. She supposed they’d add the cost of a new one to her account for the week if she did. Carefully she tucked it along the length of her body, one end safely inside the kayak at her feet, the other end resting under her arm.

Kenz folded her arms over the oar, paddle, or whatever the hell it was, and looked all around her. This was her first full day at the BDSM Caves of Correction resort, and she was more than ready to see the sights, especially any ones that included men as handsome as these three. She was actually quite surprised that there were three of them. She’d assumed a single guide would show her around, not an entire team. Then she frowned. They sort of looked alike with the same coloring and build. But there was a similarity in the shape of their faces as well. Right now she didn’t want to turn around and stare at the bossy one seated behind her, but she was sure he had the same patrician nose and slightly square jaw as the other two in the kayak beside hers. Hmm.

“What are your names? Are you brothers or cousins?” she asked.

“Didn’t Colter introduce himself to you last night? How rude. I’m Declan Lang. Sitting behind you is my brother Colter, and my younger brother Asher is behind me,” said the one who’d laughed at her and suggested the wheelbarrow.

“How did you break your leg and arm, Declan?”

“Foot. I was a teenager growing fast and had temporarily lost my usual superb motor skills. I jumped from rock to rock and missed.”

Mackenzie couldn’t help herself. She laughed at him. “I’m sorry you hurt yourself, but I have to suggest your skills were less than superb, at least right then.” She was still giggling and grinning at him.

“But these days they are once again extremely good.”

He waggled his eyebrows at her, his smile every bit as broad as hers. Heat pooled in her belly. Hot damn. Were these the men who would be with her for the entire week? Were they going to teach her all about punishment, submission, and sex? “Are you three going to be my guides for this week or are you only on duty today?”

The man behind her, the bossy one who called her ma’am all the time, stopped paddling and leaned forward.

“You belong to us this week, Mackenzie Weymouth. You signed a contract saying we could do all sorts of things to you for a whole week. We plan to teach you amazing facts about bondage and submission.”

STORY EXCERPT

Aria Taverner was thirty years old and this was her very first ride in a helicopter. She was bursting with excitement but trying to act cool and adult at the same time. Although it was damn hard to be cool and adult about being flown in a private helicopter to an island resort for a whole week of BDSM and sex along with the sun, sand, and surf.

The Caves of Correction resort was the place she was going to right now with her three best friends, Maddy, Piper, and Kenz. They’d all gone to see the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie together and then had this brilliant cool idea of trying BDSM for themselves in a safe environment.

The contract was pages and pages of really basic questions.

“What kinds of punishment do you wish to explore? Check all that apply. Flogging, whipping, caning, paddling…” Aria had ticked the boxes for every one of them. And all the boxes for sex as well. Vaginal, oral, anal, more than one man. Hell yes she was ready to taste the entire smorgasbord of offerings. If she didn’t like something well at least she’d know for the future. She’d even checked a couple of the boxes for fantasies. She could picture herself dressed in seven veils and dancing for a “prince” or “sheik” before being dragged into his tent and pleasured most thoroughly.

And then there was her big secret. One she hadn’t even hinted at to any of her friends. A forced seduction fantasy. One where the prince or sheik or pirate abducts her, ties her up, and pleasures her until she’s screaming and begging him to fuck her.

Aria’s nipples tightened just at the memory of writing that on her contract form. It was there alongside her safe word. She’d chosen “popsicle” just like Anastasia in the movie. Aria’s pussy dampened at the thought of some big man tying her up and carrying her over his shoulder into his tent. She shook her head and looked out of the huge windows of the helicopter. Were they even called windows on a helicopter? The Carolina mainland was well behind them now and an island, likely the one they were going to, was coming up in front of them.

She could see a lot of green, probably trees. Yes. As they neared the island she could see it was covered with trees, until they circled over a grassy area and the helicopter landed gently. Her ride was over but damn, it’d been exciting. A totally breath-taking way to start their vacation.

They’d only been permitted one small carry-on for their luggage, but that was because there wasn’t much room in the helicopter once the four of them plus the pilot got in. She didn’t mind. T-shirts and shorts and a bikini didn’t take up much space anyway.

Aria disembarked with her friends and stood braiding the ends of her hair until she realized she was doing it, and then she thrust her hands in her jeans pockets. It was a nervous mannerism she’d had all her life and she really ought to stop touching her hair.

The pilot handed their paperwork one by one to a group of men waiting for them. They all wore the navy-blue Caves of Correction T-shirt with the writing in white embroidery over their pocket. The man who called her name was every bit as delicious-looking as the pilot. They bred big handsome men here. Or maybe they only hired yummy-looking ones.

“I’m Cayden Marshall. Please follow me,” he said.

She took hold of the handle of her carry-on and followed the man. He was well over six foot to her five five, and had curly brown hair and brown eyes. Her own eyes were brown but his were much richer and darker, just like chocolate. Oh yes he was nice. I hope that means he’s going to be my Dom. I bet he knows how to paddle an ass to perfection.

Aria looked all around as they walked but the path they were on was a tiny narrow trail. So narrow in fact his broad shoulders scarcely fit between the shrubbery on either side of the path. They turned onto a second trail, and then a third, until they arrived at a wooden cottage with a sturdy door. Cayden unlocked it and waved her in, turning on the lights as he did, but not coming past the threshold himself.

He handed her the copy of her contract which the pilot had given him. “You have until midnight to change your mind about any or all items on the contract. Until then you can choose to leave immediately, or decide not to do some of the activities you’ve checked. But after midnight the contract is set. The only way to change your mind after midnight is to say your safe word. Do you understand?”

“Yes, I do.”

“What is your safe word?”

“Popsicle.”

“Read your contract carefully, make any changes, and leave it on the table here.”

He closed the door and was gone.

STORY EXCERPT

Aiden unlocked the door to Madeline’s cottage as silently as he could. The lock was well oiled and he made sure not to jingle the key at all. He handed the key to Carter, who was standing behind him, and took the Polystyrene cup of coffee from Logan, slipping inside. In the big bed, Madeline didn’t stir. Maddy. She wrote on her contract that her friends called her Maddy. That’s the name he should use for her as well because he intended to become her very close friend. His cock deep inside her close.
Logan and Carter silently headed down the stairs to the cave, while he walked across the room to the bed and placed the coffee on the nightstand. He couldn’t touch her until Logan got back with the signed contract. Oh fuck. If she hadn’t signed it, he’d die. One look at the thick red hair tangled on her pillowcase made him desperate to touch her. She had to have signed it. She couldn’t possibly have changed her mind. He kept his gaze fixed on the doorway down to the dungeon, swallowing hard and willing Logan to give him the signal to go-ahead.
When Logan appeared with a smile and a thumbs-up, Aiden nearly screamed in relief. He couldn’t prevent his smile and nod, but he managed not to pump his fist in the air, or yell “Yee haw!” to the world and wake their woman. Their mate. He was willing to do whatever it took, to be to her whatever she needed, to convince her to be theirs.
As soon as Logan had disappeared down the stairs again, Aiden rubbed his hand over the body-shaped bump tucked under the navy-blue blanket, and said softly, “Time to wake up, Maddy. Drink your coffee.”
She made some mumbled noise but didn’t move. He grinned. He wasn’t usually a morning person either, but for today, he had to be, so he was here. He gripped her shoulder and shook it lightly. “Wake up, Maddy. Time to drink your coffee.”
This time she lifted her head and stared at him. He held the coffee out to her and she sat up, taking it and muttering, “Thank you.”After one sip she asked, “Who are you?”
“I’m Aiden. When we get into the cave you can only call me, Master, though.”
She drank another mouthful of coffee and nodded. “I know. And not ask questions or initiate conversation. I’ve never been a sub but I’ve visited a BDSM club and read um…books.”
“Kinky books? Erotic romances where a Dom flogs your ass and then fucks you with the handle of his flogger?”
Maddy’s face turned the color of her hair but she straightened her shoulders and said firmly, “Yes.”
“Do you want that?”
“Hell yes. That’s why I’m here.”
“What about being fucked with a cock instead of a dildo?” He knew what she’d written in her contract, but it was much better for him to check her needs now, than halfway through a scene downstairs.
If anything, her face got redder, but once again she replied, “Yes, but only if the man is using a condom.”
“What about two men?”
She nodded.
“Three men?” This time he held his breath while he waited for her answer. If she was to be their mate she had to be willing to accept all of them inside her body at once or they would never be truly united.
She swallowed her coffee too fast and coughed, but gasped, “Yes.”
He tugged her out of her bed and said, “Let’s get started then.”
“Now? I haven’t brushed my teeth or—”
“I am your Master and I order you to go down into the Cave of Correction now.”
Blushing furiously once again, Maddy slid to her feet, put the half-drunk coffee on her nightstand and almost ran to the stairs.
Aiden watched her neat little ass, in short, lacy white pajamas, as she headed down the stairs and finally punched the air, a huge grin cracking his face, before he followed her, letting his boots stomp on the staircase on his way down.
Damn, she was lovely. Now they had to convince her she was theirs.

STORY EXCERPT

The helicopter arrived at exactly ten as scheduled. He’d thought helicopters were very noisy machines, and it certainly wasn’t silent, but it was nowhere near as loud as he’d expected. It looked shiny and new to his uneducated eye as well, so likely the newest models were quieter than the ones he’d seen on TV.
It landed on the grass near the house but Nahum wasn’t watching the machine. He was scanning the land all around, looking for any flicker of movement, or a flash of light off a sniper scope. Two men hustled the women into the house, but Judith insisted on turning and waving to the pilot before permitting herself to be pushed inside.
Nahum felt a flash of jealousy. Was she friends with the pilot? Had the time she’d spent up north meant she’d fallen in love with a man there? But surely the pilot worked for the person who’d loaned Zebulun the chopper? So she couldn’t have known the pilot already? Could she?
Dammit all this waiting to be with her was killing him. And he couldn’t even romance her right now either. He couldn’t do anything to get to know her and show her how badly he and his brothers wanted to find out if she was their mate her until after Lutterworth was locked away safely in jail.
But at least he’d see her now. Maybe even get to speak to her. And warn any other man away from her. She was his!
He and his brothers waited until the helicopter was a distant speak in the sky. Nahum in particular was hoping to see any potential watcher racing away to inform Lutterworth of what was going on. But either any watcher was damn clever, or there weren’t any.
“Do you think Lutterworth is able to hire a professional hit man?” he asked his brothers. They’d have very little hope of protecting Cherise and Judith against the attempts of a trained assassin. Any ordinary sniper they could weigh the contingencies, play the odds, and very likely defeat. A trained professional would know far more than them and be able to game-play and defeat them. He didn’t like that thought at all.
The three began walking to the house. Naftali shook his head. “I don’t think so. I don’t think Lutterworth has run out of money, but he might be starting to hurt. We know his criminal ventures haven’t been doing too well lately, and as far as we know he hasn’t been working at all for quite a few months,”
“We need to ask Cherise if she’s still supporting him,” said Nelson.
“Good point.” Nahum held the back door open for his brothers and they trooped through the mudroom and into the kitchen of the farm house.
Judith was sitting at the table, talking a mile a minute to the elderly male member of the staff, while Cherise was hugging the housekeeper and both the guards were standing against opposite walls looking alert and prepared.
He nodded to Zebulun’s men. “Hi there, Sam, Jake.”
He smiled happily, a weight lifting off his shoulders. If he’d been able to choose two of Zebulun’s men to send with the women, these ones would have been right at the top of his list. He had no doubt they’d give their lives to save Amory’s or the women’s if it came to that.
Sam came across to speak to them. “Are you three all right to take over guard duty for a while? Jake and I thought we’d transform and run to check out as much of the land as we can today before the Alpha arrives tomorrow for the cookout. Will the staff here need our help to get anything set up?”
Naftali had been dealing with that side of things and shook his head. “The staff will show our men where to put the spit and where the tables and chairs are stored and our people will do the rest.”
“We checked as much as we could, but running as panthers will be an excellent way to cover the ground better,” said Nahum. As panthers all their senses were heightened and that would be a bonus as well.
Jake and Sam disappeared from the kitchen and the three of them gathered closer to Cherise and Judith. When the two were sitting side by side at the table, sipping cups of coffee, Nahum said, “Excuse me, ma’am, but we need to ask you a few questions about your husband.”
“My ex-husband. My attorney filed divorce papers five months ago. So far my ex-hasn’t contested them although it’s always possible he will. Unfortunately I think it’s likely he’d rather steal things from me and dispose of them, thereby ensuring he gets the money, rather than trying to win things from me by legal means. That’s why I need to get back to my town house as soon as possible with my attorney to ensure nothing has gone missing. I know he checked the insurance list, but I need to see everything myself.”
Nelson said, “Do you understand that we would prefer you all to stay here over the weekend so Lutterworth has one single place to focus an attack on?”
“And you have one place to defend,” said Judith.
“Yeah, that too,” answered Nahum.
“Monday will be fine. I hope everything is sorted out by then,” said Cherise.
Nahum hoped it would be as well, but he wasn’t convinced. He had a feeling Lutterworth might not be that easy to catch. After all, he’d remained above the law all his life until now.

The Cat Burglars are back: A Mate for the Alpha and His Brothers

OUT TODAY! A Mate for the Alpha and His Brothers (MFMM)
By Cara Adams The Cat Burglars book 4

Elsie "LC" Parker needs to return a stolen jeweled dagger given to her brother JJ before leaving town forever. The Alpha of the panther pack to whom she takes it has no intention of letting her go. He wants her to be his mate.
Amory craves her with every breath he takes, but he doesn’t want to touch her because he feels guilty about claiming a mate when so many of his men don’t have a woman of their own.
His brothers, Favian and Brayden, really like Elsie as well, but don’t want to claim her and share her when Amory so clearly wants her. They don’t understand why he doesn’t ask her on a date or at least try to kiss her. Amory might be the Alpha of the pack, but when it comes to romance, he obviously needs his brothers’ help to get moving, before Elsie gives up on them all and really does leave.

STORY EXCERPT

“My brother, who is much younger than me…um…came across the dagger. His friends wanted to give it to a person they know who pays for such items, but I wanted it to be returned to the person who owns it, so I brought it to you.”
“How do you know about me?”
The scary, fierce look was back on his face. Elsie refused to be cowed. “I play chess. I used to belong to a chess club.”
The Alpha spoke very slowly, as if he was dredging the information up from the bottom of his memory. “Someone at your club lost their travel chess set.”
“That’s right. Your company returned it to him.”
“That was several months ago.”
“Yes, about three months ago. I had to leave the club just after that.”
“Why?”
“I wasn’t able to pay my membership fees. They gave me an extra six months free because—Well, they did, but I still couldn’t pay.” Because her mother had died, and she hadn’t had a paying job for twelve months as her mother had needed her. But the neighborhood they lived in now didn’t look good on a resume. Especially one that had only intermittent work for the past five years because she’d always put her care for her mother higher than her need to keep her job.
And I don’t regret that at all. I will cherish the memories of Mom and me spending time together on her better days.
“Getting back to this dagger. Your brother stole it.”
“No, he didn’t.” Her response was instant and heartfelt, although possibly not one hundred percent accurate.
“He might have been the look-out person or something, but not the actual thief. He doesn’t want to join the gang and end up in jail. It’s just that in our neighborhood, well…” Elsie ran out of words.
How would these people have any concept at all of the grinding poverty in the neighborhood where they lived now? Before her mom had gotten sick, they hadn’t been rich, but they had been surrounded by good, hard-working people and kids who went to school. But her mom’s illness had drained every cent of the family’s savings, and then gradually they’d sold everything they could, even the car. Finally they’d moved into the cheapest apartment they could find. Her brother, so much younger than her, had suffered the most.
Even on the days when he went to school, she didn’t think he learned much. Some of the teachers didn’t care what the students did or even if they went to class. Others cared, but spent most of their time trying to maintain discipline. Elsie didn’t think very many of the teachers managed to instill much learning in the students. After a while, her brother had simply avoided school.
She really couldn’t blame him.
The Alpha gave a hand signal to the other man, who left the room, closing the door behind him. The Alpha poured them both a second cup of coffee, leaned back in his chair, and said, “Why don’t you begin at the beginning and tell me why a young woman would arrive at a shape-shifter enclave on foot, with spare clothing hidden inside a coat.”
Elsie sighed. “It’s a very long story. Five years long.”
For the first time, the man smiled. “Do you think you could cut it down and tell me in five hours?”
Elsie’s breath caught in her throat. When he smiled, he was amazing. His eyes sparkled, the creases on his forehead smoothed out, and he looked like what he was, an exceptionally handsome man.
“I’ll aim for five minutes. My mother had cancer. It was much too late to operate when it was discovered. It was already in her spine. She quit her job and had chemotherapy and took pills, but like I said, it was much too late. She got a lot sicker quite quickly, so I left my job and took on part-time work so I could be with her and help her.”
“You said your brother is much younger. Was he working?”
“He was twelve. He’s seventeen now and still in school. When he goes. We had to move into a cheaper apartment, and the schools in the district aren’t…aren’t…well, I’m sure you can guess.”
He nodded, and she took a mouthful of coffee, bracing herself to continue.
“He said he has to be seen with one of the gangs to be safe. I expect it’s the truth. Like I said, it’s not a nice neighborhood. He’s resisted joining, but he has to cooperate with them. The gang has started working with a man called The Fixer. He tells them what to steal and which houses to go to and steal it. He’s even given one of the older boys a car so they can travel anywhere around town.”
“How did you learn about the dagger?”
“The person who’d ordered it changed their mind, and The Fixer hasn’t paid for it yet. The gang left it with JJ, and he’s supposed to hand it over when the time comes. I begged him not to. He’ll end up in jail for sure. The Fixer doesn’t care. He laughs at the boys when they go into danger. I’ve told JJ to leave town, to go away, and he wants to, yet he won’t.”
“So you’re going to run away instead? Will JJ follow you?”
“I don’t know. I’m planning to go to another state and get a job and then send for him. I have to do it fast though. The rent on the apartment is only paid for another month. That was all the money I could get. No one wants to hire a woman with no reference.”
Elsie realized she sounded bitter. She wasn’t. Her mother couldn’t help getting sick, and JJ couldn’t help only being a boy still. She was the adult. It was up to her to find a job and make a new start for herself and JJ. And she’d do it, too.
“Where are you going?”
“I don’t know.”
“What?”
“There’s a diner where the trucks stop about five miles from here. I’m going to walk there and find a truck driver who wants a passenger. I’ll go wherever he’s going.”
The Alpha jumped to his feet, gray eyes blazing. “No you will not.”
